The Fight for Improved Medicare for All Begins in Your Community!

People in communities across the country understand that our deeply fragmented and profit-driven health care system doesn’t serve their best interests. That’s why health care is consistently the top issue among voters and why momentum is growing in Congress for the Medicare for All Act of 2019, that was recently introduced in the House by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) with a record number of 106 original co-sponsors, and in the Senate by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) with 14 original co-sponsors.

2019 will be a pivotal year in advancing the fight for Medicare for All leading up to the 2020 elections, and we will need to build a national movement of support, starting in our local communities. An important part of this strategy will be to pass local government resolutions in towns, school boards, hamlets, cities, and counties in support of guaranteed healthcare for all through a Medicare for All national health insurance program, as well as complementary state single-payer efforts.

Help us pass hundreds of local government resolutions across the United States.

Why Local Government Resolutions?

Local governments must often deal most directly with the consequences of our unaffordable and inequitable health insurance system. Municipal budgets are increasingly strapped and local businesses struggle to make ends meet due to rising health insurance premiums. And local governments provide front-line response when community members face medical debt-related bankruptcies or become gravely ill or die needlessly because they lacked adequate health insurance.

Thus, local governments can play an important role in highlighting the desperate need for an expanded and improved Medicare for All. By passing resolutions, local governments can help to shape the national public narrative and build political will needed to ultimately win guaranteed healthcare for everyone as a matter of right.
